Affiliate Marketing
Difficult Path

Graeme Anderson
competitive path where nearly everyone is competing in the same niche or promoting the same offer. While this won’t be much of a concern for an experienced marketer. How will those who are new to affiliate marketing, with limited resources, earn an honest crust?
Getting Started In Affiliate Marketing?
According to some ‘experts’, just getting started with the top traffic sources can cost hundreds of dollars each day and most new affiliates still don’t know how to get the best out of their traffic sources.
Easy To Get started
While its easy to break into most niches, and compete, with a small budget. The problems start when those with a more long term marketing strategy (and bigger budget) arrive on the scene and start to dominate.
Understanding The Game
It’s important to understand that affiliate marketing is a profit or loss business just like any other where ROI is all important. With that in mind, here is the typical game most affiliates are playing right now. They are mostly all in the:
- Same niches
- Same offers
- Same networks
- Same payouts
- Same traffic sources
- Same cost per click
- Same landing pages
- Same ads
There is some variation on the above, but for the most part, nearly everyone is playing the same affiliate marketing game, on the same court, with the same bat and the same ball.

Unfair advantage
Don’t Play Fair
Personally, I don’t like to play an even or fair game. It’s far too much work with not enough return. I’d rather dominate from the outset and bring a howitzer to a fist fight.
In affiliate marketing, the best way to ‘wheel out the big guns’ is to have the biggest profit margin.
If you are making a higher profit margin on every single conversion then you can afford to pay more for a conversion.
If Joe Affiliate is making $20 on every conversion and you are making $75 then there is no way he can compete with you in the same traffic sources.
You are able to profit because keywords, targets, and sites that you wouldn’t be profitable with at the standard $20 margin, are now profitable at a $75 margin.
So now, not only can you get more traffic from the sources everyone else is competing in, but you can also tap into sources other affiliates can’t touch.
Increase Profit Margin
Small increases in margin aren’t going to be enough to really set yourself apart from competitors. You’re going to need to implement something more powerful than simply asking for an increase in payout, better keyword bidding strategies and higher converting landing pages. Those are all great to have and you should be doing all that anyway. But those are just sticks and stones, not the howitzer I mentioned earlier.
Implement A Better Profit Margin
So how do we implement a larger increase in profit margin? Simple, collect the conversion data, and monetize it before passing your traffic to the offer.
Collecting the data and monetizing it with specific methods is going to put your earnings per conversion above most other affiliates. The good news is that it doesn’t require massive investment, just know how. As I’ve often said in the past ‘despite what the gurus/experts say. There are no secrets or mysteries in affiliate marketing, only a bunch of stuff we don’t know yet’.
